Schools & Colleges Programme

NPL aims to improve sexual health and reduce teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections including HIV among BME young people in schools and colleges.

Specifically, this means enhancing young peoples' sexual health knowledge and skills so that they are better able to talk to peers and adults about their sexual health needs, make informed decisions and negotiate choices about when to initiate sexual activity. This will help to reduce teenage pregnancy, terminations and sexually transmitted infections including HIV.

As a result of a two-year study of the sexual health needs of BME youth, we have identified that a preferred method for delivering sexual health knowledge and skills is with the help of skilled peers. NPL is therefore developing a comprehensive BME peer sexual health education project as our primary way of working with schools and schools.

We are particularly proud of our work in schools and colleges which enables BME young people to reconcile their cultural norms and religious beliefs with their sexual awaking during adolescence.

Our work is highly regarded by head teachers and health promotion units across London.

We have worked extensively with schools and colleges especially in West and North London and have delivered sex education training to both staff and students.

"Thank you NPL for a highly informative, illuminating and enjoyable morning. It was a resounding success."
